Following a workshop held in Lorch as part of the “Neighborhood Conversations” funding program, a booklet was to be developed for follow-up. The booklet addresses how to deal with discriminatory conflict situations in a democratic way, in both Turkish and German.

Thinking

The challenges of a bilingual publication: Visually bringing together languages that sound (and look!) different, without creating a hierarchy between them. That’s why I set the flowing Turkish, distinguished by its diacritics, in a serif font with an orange-red reference to the flag, and the more sober, harsher-sounding German in a gray, italic sans serif.

In the forum theater method used in the workshop, experienced conflict situations are reenacted, roles are distributed differently, and the situations are viewed from various perspectives (and seats).

Simple illustrations depict conflict situations and help explain terms in Turkish and German.
